1st Call for Public Research (FY2021-FY2022)

[Download the Application Guidelines and Research Plan Form]

What is being solicited and expectations for the public research(From the public offering guidelines)

In this research area, the results obtained from the most advanced radio astronomical observations (Research Item A01), analysis of extraterrestrial materials including sample return samples, and primordial material reproduction/alteration experiments (Research Item A02) are deciphered by a model that integrates the physical evolution process of celestial bodies and chemical reaction networks promoted by the theory group (Research Item A03). The model is based on a fusion of physical evolutionary processes and chemical reaction networks. In constructing the model, we incorporate the results of cutting-edge molecular science research, such as precise gas-phase reaction experiments (Research Item A04) and atomic- and molecular-level surface reaction experiments (Research Item A05), which aim to formulate theories for understanding the rich chemical phenomena occurring in the region where planetary systems are formed. Chemical calculations (Research Item A03) will be utilized for theoretical verification. In addition, the theoretical group will serve as a hub to connect the "micro" of gas-phase and surface experiments with the "macro" of observation and analysis, and to promote organic collaboration in the entire research field.

Thus, this research area aims at the reformation of interstellar chemistry from five approaches: observation, theory, analysis, gas-phase experiment, and surface experiment, and these approaches are widely spread over the fields of astronomy, physics, earth and planetary science, and chemistry. Therefore, we expect proposals for experimental, theoretical, and observational/analytical studies from a wide range of disciplines that are complementary to or advanced from the above planned research. In addition to experiments, analyses, and development of instruments and methods with relatively large budgets (up to 5 million yen per year), we also expect small-scale research based on budding ideas, such as theoretical studies and preliminary experiments that can be promoted with small budgets (less than 2 million yen per year).

*The maximum application amount is not the total amount for the research period (two years), but the amount for a single year (one year). The maximum amount is not the total amount of the research period (2 years). When applying, you need to select the relevant research plan (A01-A05). Please be aware of this.
